Role overview

The Assistant Manager, Legal will support the business units by providing legal guidance, reviewing agreements and legal documents, monitoring new legislation or amendments, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The role is also responsible for managing Corporate Secretarial, litigation, safeguarding the Company’s intellectual property, and implementing the policies and procedures of the Legal & Compliance Department to minimise risk and enhance governance.

Job description

  • Provide legal support to all business units through interpretation, drafting, advice, negotiation, research, and analysis of legal and regulatory issues.
  • Prepare and review agreements, legal documents, and correspondence governing commercial relationships with third parties.
  • Monitor new legislation and amendments to determine their relevance to the Company’s operations, ensuring correct implementation.
  • Manage Corporate Secretarial and RJSC filings, litigation matters, including commercial, consumer, credit, labour, and company disputes, and facilitate out-of-court settlements.
  • Deliver clear legal opinions and advice to management and business units.
  • Coordinate with and manage external legal counsel as required.
  • Safeguard and protect the Company’s intellectual property rights.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Provide legal and compliance reporting to Shopfront Ltd. as required.
  • Organise and conduct training sessions for employees to raise awareness of legal obligations, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement and enforce the policies and procedures of the Legal & Compliance Department.
  • Monitor and ensure timely updates of licenses and permits for the Company.

Qualification and experience

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law (LLB/LLM) from a reputed university.

Professional Experience:

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong understanding of corporate, commercial, labour, and regulatory laws.
  • Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate contracts and manage litigation.
  • Exposure to compliance management and regulatory frameworks will be an advantage.
